Parky is a third year chemistry student who plays second man down in band and is brass soc through and through. Other than just playing, he is also a member of the university snow society, and many other music societies. Before coming to university he started playing trumpet at age 9 and went on to Study at the Guildhall in London, and performed at venues such as, The Royal Albert Hall, Barbican, Snape Maltings, Westminster Abbey, St. Johns Smiths Square and LSO St. Lukes. However through all this he had never really played in brass bands (even though his dad is president of another band), but now he’s well and truly bitten by the bug. This year he’s the band President, hopefully steering us towards glory at contests and fun at rehearsals. He’s friendly enough having served us once as social secretary so any problems go and have a chat with him.

Mark is a Maths student who plays, well, pretty much whatever is required. Known in his first year as Awesome Fresh due to his keenness for banding and drinking (so just banding, then), Mark plays for his home band The City of Bristol Brass Band and has done for 5 years. He looks forward to another year of hilarity and inebriation, hopefully untempered by the added responsibility of his new role!

Karl is an Accounting and Finance student who plays the cornet. Having been involved in brass bands for about eight years playing with a number of local brass bands up north! When not playing the cornet you’ll find him either on the football pitch, in the pub, on the golf course or with friends and family. So actually he could be anywhere so don’t bother looking! He’s looking forward to losing his exec virginity and having another busy year with Brasssoc.

Claire is a third year Mathematics Student. She has been playing the trombone for 10 years, and has played in various ensembles ranging from orchestras to big bands. She loves jazz, drawing, wine tasting (or just drinking it!) and mountain biking (recently achieving a silver at the 2009 UK Women's Cross Country Down Hill Challenge). Although she's relatively new to the brass band scene she has brass band in her blood as she is from the North and worked down t' pit as a small child. She is looking forward to the year ahead and organising some great concerts.

Richard is a second year Biological Sciences student. Coming from the village of Dobcross in Saddleworth, Richard has always had a strong passion for brass banding. When he's not at band or rushing to finish a lab report, you'll find him in the pub and sometimes in curiousitea (because he does love his cake).

Mike (AKA Pablo) is a Chemistry student, hailing from Delph in Saddleworth. He plays tenor horn in the band. He has played in brass bands from the age of eight years old and can't recall a time when he hasn't been in one! BrassSoc aside, Mike is also a member of two other Societies - Atomic and BandSoc. He also plays drums and keyboards in a rock band called Sunlight Ascension and he loves a nice cold pint at the pub.

Holly a 2^nd year Law student (well will be if she makes it to next year!) You will normally hear her before you see her as she’s the crazy one who’s always laughing at something or another. She’s been playing Flugel since arriving at the band last year, before this she played the cornet. Brass banding has always been a big part of Holly’s life and has played in various brass bands since the age of 8. This is helped because her whole family are brass banders! It’s a way of life. When not banding you’ll find her on the football pitch (yes, girls can play football!) She’ll be the person in charge of making sure you all have loads of fun, and that you learn all of our famous brass soc songs J

Rachael, a final year physicist and previous exec member on 2 occasions, this year she will be steering the good ship symphonic. Having started learning to play in a brass band when about 9 years old with a band in Cornwall, she moved out of brass band territory to Cambridgeshire age 13 and dabbled in big bands, concert bands and orchestras but on coming to university saw the opportunity to do some proper brass banding again. Rachael became involved in Symphonic Brass in Her second year and now plays all the funny squeaky instruments.
