BrassSoc’s Brass Band is the Society’s largest group with around forty members. The Brass Band performs a wide variety of music, ranging from classic marches and test pieces to movie and pop hits, and is professionally conducted by Simon Hogg. The Band performs regularly at both concerts and contests, and is the only University Brass Band to compete in the Nationals.
Highlights for the Brass Band in the past year have included being crowned the 4th Section Champions at the Leicestershire Brass Band Association contest, and being awarded ‘Most Entertaining Band’ in the Trophy Section at UniBrass. Last year we also welcomed Brighouse and Rastrick’s solo trombonist, Ryan Watkins, to perform as a guest soloist in our Term 1 concert. The band also enjoys annual trips and tours, having recently travelled to Vienna, Durham and Cardiff.
Our Brass Band is unauditioned, so join us at 5pm on Wednesdays in the Ensemble Room in the Arts Centre! We welcome all traditional brass band instruments; cornets, flugel and tenor horns, trombones, euphoniums, baritones, tubas and percussion. We also own a range instruments which members can borrow free of charge for rehearsals and performances.
